00 02 01 Falkenberg, West Coast of Sweden

Dear Reader,

Since I left Spain, at the end of November almost two months have gone.

The difference between the summer conditions in Spain and the snowstorm in which we drove back to our home was depressive. Nevertheless I discovered soon that the comfort in our house in Sweden was much better than in my apartment in Alicante, so I felt optimistic again.

As for my work with the Szondi Forum, the greatest advantage for me here is the fact that I have in Falkenberg my library, my dictionaries and a connection of the ISDN without fault. This gave me a chance to start to work in a much more efficient way than I could do in Alicante.

In my last newsletter we described our plans to get a better lay out of the Forum and that we planned to improve the possibilities to lift out articles. A lot of this is already done thanks to Slavick Shibayev, our Russian programmer, who carried out this important work. THANK YOU SLAVICK!

The Forum was also updated with much new information. A great personal pleasure for me was that we opened a Latin Section. My plan is to extend this section make it one of the main sections of the Forum. The reason for this is that I am very optimistic regarding the development of the Szondi movement in South America. Especially in Brazil there are already some important nuclei of Szondi groups.

For them the Forum fulfills a very important task, which is to publish translations from German and French into Spanish and English. The reason for this is that most of my South American contacts know English but have difficulties to read German or French. Our translations give them an occasion to know the content of important Szondi articles.

An additional pleasure for me was that I could use my newly acquired knowledge of Spanish to translate from Spanish into English, and thereby transfer the Spanish text about the “Ill treated woman” into English on the Forum.

I am also happy to publish an updated version of Alberto Peralta’s article: “SYSTEMATIZATION, a definitive breach in the theory of Rorschach”. This article is an important contribution to the psychoanalytic interpretation of an abbreviated version of the Rorschach test, called the Z- test. The Swiss psychologist HANS ZULLINGER, a specialist in Child psychology, developed this test.

It is very probable that many of you, who are only interested in Szondi, have not read the second part of this article. It describes the different stages (levels) of personality development. In my opinion this part is theoretically important, because it demonstrates clearly how these stages of psychic development reflect the same line of evolution that Schotte presented in his theories about Pathoanalysis. There is a clear correspondence between these stages, as described by Peralta, and the internal autologic of the Szonditest, as presented by Schotte by the formula: > C -> (S+P) -> Sch<

The Z-test has for me also another value. Early in the years 60 I already discovered the value of the Z-test as a timesaving instrument. In this period I did not have any formal qualification as a psychologist. However, after I had pointed out the advantages of the Z- test to the director of a great Swedish Company for applied psychology, the Z-test became my " entrance passport” in this company. Soon I was employed as a specialist in psycho diagnostics. Zulliger began his psychological studies as a like schoolteacher. He had a natural aptitude for Child psychology and wrote several books about this subject.

Prof. Duruz at the Colloquium 99 presented an important article, which I want to give a prominent place by putting it at the beginning of the Forum. The title of this article is:

The instinctual system and the test of Szondi: models for whom?” (Le système pulsionnel et le test de Szondi: modèles pour qui?)

Duruz article was written in French but I made a translation of it into English. Duruz formulated some basic questions concerning the future of the Szondi movement. At the beginning of the new millennium I think it is worthwhile that each of us thoroughly reads this article and reflects on it and, if possible, sends us the answer YOU worked, which we will gladly publish on the Forum.

I know that even in the Belgium groups the same question is asked in the more condensed form of: “What does it mean to be a Szondian?” (Qu'est ce ca veut dire d'être Szondien). A clear answer to these questions can be of great importance for the future of the Szondi movement.

In my opinion an example of such an answer was in my opinion the contribution of Anne Gayral by her article: “Treaty of Innovation, the Diffusion of the Szondi” (Essai d’Innovation, la Diffusion du Szondi). In this article she showed how the Szondi test can be applied to problems of a non-pathological nature.

As for my own contributions: The fact that I worked exclusively the last four years with transferring articles on the internet by way of the Leopold Szondi Forum will speak for it self.

Moreover, both Christian and I have already tried to realize one of the suggestions wishes of Duruz by SOLLICITING DATA to build up a DATA BASE on the Forum which could be used in a non-profit way for research work. However, it might be symptomatic, but unfortunately it is true that from neither of the two main European Szondi groups, the Szondi Institute or the Louvain group, we got any reaction or positive response to this suggestion.

Nevertheless I have to recognise that the Louvain group gave earlier already a positive example by allowing us to publish all their Cahiers and many others of their articles on the Internet. For this I here again would like to give credit to Jean Mélon. This was an example, which I would like see to be followed in the same generous way by other groups.

As for Duruz suggestion about a “carte de visite”: Bob Maebe already has formulated a clear and objective introduction to Fateanalysis and Pathoanalysis, which is unfortunately too short. Could this not become extended in the way Duruz proposes?

Although I have great understanding that probably the very best of us are individualists I do agree with Duruz that each of us has ask ourselves if the Szondi movement really can survive when its most prominent members keep to the mentality “each one for himself”. A somewhat more generous attitude would certainly contribute to spread more knowledge about Szondi’s work.

I would like very much to write more about this, but I in the first place my task is to transfer the existing knowledge about Szondi on the Internet. Close to finishing this newsletter I want however to express my convicition that I am optimistic about the future of the Szondi movement. In the long run history has showed us that quality survives and beats out second rang theories.

I also want to thank all of you who have send me your new year wishes and/or birthday congratulations.

We, Christian Papilloud and I, wish you a successfull continuation of this new year.
