Dear Friends,
This newsletter I write to you with some delay from Alicante/ Spain.  I plan to stay there this winter and rented therefore an old student apartment in San-Vicente/Alicante, in the neighbourhood of the university. Here I intend to work the next months. I plan to use 40 % of my time following courses in Spanish and psychopathology in order to improve the quality of my Spanish translations of Szondi articles, 60% of my I will continue working with the Szondi Forum.
Since I wrote you my last newsletter the time passed by was rather dramatic for me and characterised by many up and downs. Unfortunately when I came back home in Sweden, after my first visit in Alicante during Mai, I got a kind of fatigue collapse, which ended with an internal haemorrhage and a week at the hospital for blood transfusions and medical care. My son Jens and me already had registered for a course in Spanish for foreign students during August. I felt it was really taking a risk to leave already at the end of June to Alicante, especially because the physicians never could point out to me the exact cause and spot of the haemorrhage. It was therefore with some misgivings that I started my flight back to Spain. I had somewhat the feeling as if the sword of Damocles was hanging over my head.
Neither was the Spanish course in Alicante in August a holiday experience. As I had a rather extensive vocabulary I was put in the advanced course. However most of the other students had during studied Spanish grammar at school for several years, I in contrast to them I had forgotten nearly all what I had learned about Spanish grammars nearly sixty years ago (!).  The first time it was therefore very hard for me to follow the lectures, especially as the average temperature was around 35 Celsius.
Nevertheless I enjoyed myself again very much to be in Alicante. One of the very good things I experience here is the fact that I don't need to take anymore medicine against lower back pain and rheumatic problems, the sun and warmth did their part. Besides even this time I met some new, very nice and kind, friends whose warmth and interest in me made it clear to me that I had made the right decision.  It made it easier for me to register another time for a course during the autumn. I rented therefore an old flat close to the University and in the centre of San-Vicente.
At the end of August course Jens and me flew back to Sweden where Jens would continue his high school studies. I stayed only some weeks in Falkenberg to collect some books and clothes and returned at the end of September back to Alicante. It was the right moment to leave, for weather conditions in Sweden were already starting to get worse. Back in Alicante it took some time before I got settled and could apply for a telephone and ISDN Internet connection, but at last here I got time to start preparing my work for the Szondi Forum and use still at present my portable to write this.
To keep in easier contact with you I have however ordered a brand new powerful computer with a Pentium 550 Mhz, 20 GB, 128 MB and an "Intel Create and Share Camera  Pack", which makes it possible to see and speak to my family and friends by way of the Internet. I hope this kind of relative cheap Internet phone and video combination will soon pay back some of the expenses I spent to buy this new computer. This might be the right moment to suggest also to you with whom I have regular (phone) contacts to buy such an Intel Camera Pack - or at least a program by which you can phone me. I expect that around the 15/10 everything will be installed. All of you who are waiting so long already for an answer of me please have still some more patience. As soon as everything here is settled I will let you know my new Spanish Internet address. As you have noticed some months ago we made changes in the presentation of the Szondi Forum.  This was done in order to be able to put later on a database on the Forum. This after a suggestion of Christian Papilloud, psychologist in Lausanne. Another reason was that we wanted to make it easier for you to lift out (copy) articles and by this save Internet time. In fact Christian has showed such a great interest in the Szondi Forum and taken personally so much initiative to mobilise the Szondi movement that I asked him to become CO-EDITOR of the Szondi Forum. I thin he really deserved to get this sign of appreciation. We all can be glad that he accepted and wish him "WELCOME ON BOARD". Chistian took also over the responsibility for the technical make up. However even these projects will take time so I ask even here to have some patience!
Besides my travelling around even Christian was the last months moving a lot. His original homebase is Laussane/Switserland, were he worked as a
psychologist. His present studies in sociology are done at the University of Bielefelt/West Germany  and -last but not least - these last months he studied temporarily in Paris. As far as I know even he will start again the 15/10. So let us hope that the Szondi Forum around this time starts becoming active again.
In my newsletter of the beginning of Maj  I informed you already that I got such a kind welcome by two Spanish psychology professors. One of them Prof. Luis Cibanal Juan became in the meantime my friend. He is interested in my work and gives me great moral support. He promised me, when necessary to have a look at my translations. I am very happy to know him. I am sure I speak in the name of you all who are interested in Szondi's ideas when I express our gratitude for his generous collaboration. MUCHOS GRACIAS AMIGO LUIS!
Besides my contact with him I got a few days before I left from Sweden another  very promising contact with an Argentine psychiatrist. He also promised me to assist me by correcting my Spanish articles and at the same time he forwarded some very interesting remarks about his views about the development of the Szondi movement. I will soon let you know more about him and his viewpoints.
In case my new Spanish e-mail address  would not work you can continue to send your e-mail to Sweden, from there they will forward your mail to
me. To all of you my Szondi friends I wish a very happy Szondi Destiny in the time to come,

Your editor Leo Berlips.
