Alicante, Saturday afternoon, 990502
Dear Friends,
Herewith some short news about my latest adventures.
One week ago I arrived from a rather cold and dark Swedcn in
Alicante, where still at 23.30 in the evening the temperature was
around 26 degrees.
Already next morning I visited the University campus. Later I
heard that about 15.000 students (some other sources say 30.000)
were inscribed. It was all Quite impressive, gave a very modern
impression, large white units, palmtrees, hundreds of fountains
and again the very very pleasant temperature of twenty seven
degrees.
The library was still open and available for students and with
pleasure I saw some hundred students sitting there and studying,
on Sundaymorning! I became aware that Spain has become a new
country.
Next morning I met the director of the psychology department,
professor Abilio R he let me immediately feel at home. Although he himself worked
with cognitive methods he was very open minded. He had studied in
Germany He introduced me also to one of his assistants Luis, who
had studied more than one decennia in Genf, of which several
years getting training in psychoanalysis.
They both promised me every form of assistance, in case I needed
so and they would try to get me in contact with students who were
interested in depth psychology.
There is no psychology faculty at the University. The Psychology
department is a part of a large training’s program for
nurses and is therefore called “department of Health
psychology”
A new Nurse training’s program was started only a few years
ago. It is organised in such a way that the nurses finish studies
after four years. However the studies are planned in such a way
that after some years practical work they may continue another
four years and become real physicians. I think this was a great
idea, it gives great chances to the children of the working
class.
After my meeting with these two gentlemen I visited some sections
of the Library. Two stocks, with room of about 200 meter length with
large windows and a vieuw on mountains. At one side of the room
about 200 computers and at the other side about 30 with internet
connections.
There are about six or seven restaurants, with for Swedish
conditions very cheap food.
The rest of the week I lived like a monk and spent most of my
time in my hotel. It is a cheap hotel in the center of town and
of course with rather primitve conditions. I have not even a
contact to connect my desktop in my room. However I found on the
highest 7th
stock a large conference room, which is never used and
where I work between 8.30 13 and 16 19. I work
mostely with making spanish translations of introduction articles
tgo Sxondi and Pathoanalyse.
This is not easy because I have first to translate from German or
French into English. First then I can use my Spanish translation
program, which I still have to correct. As you understand this is
not easy, especially when the text is complicated. Herewith an
example of how I tried to translate Juttners
“Umformuliering” `s article:
German:
Das Faehigkeit des Ichs, zu sich ja oder nein sagen zu können
(k), verhilft dem eigenen Sein (p), Gefahren der UEberschaetzung
und Minderwertigkeit zu bannen, wenn der Mensch sich seiner
bewußt wird oder sich teilnehmend einem ”Du” zuwendet.
English:
The ability of the Ego, to be able to say yes or no to oneself
(k), helps to avoid the dangers of overestimating or deflating oneself during the
process of existential self- realisation (p), while becoming
conscious about oneself or when turning to another person by
participating in or “sharing of feelings”.
Spanish:
La capacidad del ego, de poder decir sí o. no a se (k), ayudas
para
evitar los peligros de de sobrestimación o. que se desinfla
durante
el proceso del selfrealisation existencial (p), mientras que
llega a
ser consciente sobre se o. al dar vuelta a otra persona
participando
adentro o. " compartiendo de sensaciones ".
In another week my wife Gunnel will join me for one week and I
hope she will Like Alicante as much as I do. My future plans are to join an
intensive course in Spanish, probably in company of Jens, in
August. I opened a bank account on a Spanish bank. I would like
to find a small studio where I could work and spend the coldest
time of the year.
